Montague County Schools Closure Notice
Bowie, Forestburg, Gold-Burg, Montague, Nocona, Prairie Valley & Saint Jo
The Superintendents of the Montague County Schools have reached the mutual decision to close all schools in the county until at least April 10. With this knowledge, we are preparing for the strong possibility that this could last through the end of the school year. This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information and assess conditions throughout the closure, and will provide the updates as warranted via our website, email, and social media.
Throughout Spring Break, we have been monitoring the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. We have been in daily conversations amongst ourselves as well as receiving updates from the Texas Commissioner of Education and other state and regional agencies. Our health officials report that cases are continuing to spread in the state, and suspending operations for this length will allow us to determine whether the virus is continuing to be community spread or whether it has been contained.
Instruction at Home: While our mission of supporting students is the same, the specifics will vary by school district. Please be watching over the next couple of days for information from your child’s campus regarding academic supports. It is important that our students continue to work on their academic skills while at home so they are ready to move forward when school resumes. For this purpose, each school will be working on plans to provide students with at-home educational resources and activities. These lessons will continue to be posted by your child’s teachers throughout the duration of the school closure.
Student Meals: Each school district is working on a plan to provide meals to students who may need them.
We know that any school closure creates hardships for our families and the decision to close our schools is not taken lightly, however protecting the health of our students, staff, parents, and communities takes priority. This is an unprecedented situation requiring all of us to make tough decisions. Please take every precaution during this time to keep your children and yourselves safe. We look forward to seeing our students again when we can.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
